I’ve always been attracted to street food.

Whether a freshly made pretzel on the streets of New York, or a Pad Thai curry in on the beach in Thailand.

Street food may have been born as a city thing but Falmouth is fast becoming the street food capital of Cornwall, with a vast array of multi-coloured vans parked strategically around the town serving up everything from gourmet burgers to burritos.

One of my favourite events is the Falmouth Street Food and Craft Ale Festival.

Now in its third year it really does bring people and cultures together; and the food is astonishingly good with so many different tastes on offer.

On a sunny, Sunday afternoon I finally persuaded Mrs C to step away from her bee hotel and walk the short distance to Events Square.

It wasn’t easy I can tell you, but after two glasses of Tarquin’s elderflower and pink grapefruit gin, she soon began to warm to the occasion.

I found my way to the Padstow Brewing stand and enjoyed a pint of Sundowner IPA which is strong but really light to taste.

When it came to choosing what to eat, we have a long-standing favourite.

Thyme & Tide is run by chef Lee Lake.

Having grown up on the coast in Cornwall, Lee’s love of the sea has clearly played a huge part in helping to shape him as chef.

After much discussion Mrs C finally chose a mackerel burger, served with apple, fennel and beetroot slaw, which she claimed was "summer in a bun".

I ordered a Cajun fish burger which is hake fillet rubbed with Cajun spice and then grilled and served in a bun with tomato chilli jam.

This is perfect street food, and what I love about Lee Lake is the way he showcases Cornish seafood and mixes up the flavours to create a healthy snack that is absolutely delicious.

Lee’s inspiration comes from his travels to Japan, Thailand and Portugal and his menu is not all about fish, his vegetarian dishes include shakshuka, and portobello mushroom and Halloumi burgers with homemade tomato and chilli jam.

After another pint of Sundowner I suddenly realised I had lost Mrs C somewhere in the crowd, and there was no sign of her at the Tarquin’s Gin stand, either. A few moment later she sends me a text that reads:

“There’s a bee in my hotel – quick, come home and see!”
