Sir Robin Knox Johnston arrived in Falmouth today (June 11) in his yacht Suhaili, the boat which he sailed to become the first man to circumnavigate the world solo in 1968.

The landing in Falmouth commemorated the anniversary of his record breaking Sunday Times Golden Globe race in which he set off from and landed in the town.

He said: "Every time I take her out it just reminds me of what a fantastic yacht she is."

Thursday June 14 will mark the 50th anniversary to the day of Sir Robin Knox Johnston's historic departure from Falmouth, and there will be a parade of sail featuring Suhaili and this year's Golden Globe participants who will sail around the harbour.

The Golden Globe fleet will then set off on a race from Pendennis Point to Les Sables d'Olonne in France to raise money for neuro degenerative disease charity SITraN.
