When a Helston mum found out her best friend had cancer she wanted to do as much as she could to help.

Suzanne Dunne set up a Just Giving page and in just three months raised £5,000 thanks to her determination to show how much she thought of her best mate Michelle Buxton.

The 37 year-old said: “Michelle is a great friend and when her mum told me she had bowel cancer just after Christmas, I knew I had to do something.

“I went about door to door collections, sold items online, people gave me clothes and items to sell and it took off from there.”

Michelle, from Penryn, has undergone chemotherapy which has helped to shrink the tumour and is she is currently being monitored by doctors.

But Suzanne decided she was going to lose her locks – all 20 inches of her blond hair - and brave the shave to further support mum of two Michelle.

Adam Cooper, who owns Kingsman Barbers in Helston, performed the charity shave watched by Cancer Research UK fundraising manager, Sophie Barber. (Pictured with Suzanne)

Sophie said: “It amazing to hear so many stories of how people fundraise and how Suzanne has pulled out all the stops to raise this money. Cancer Research UK relies on public donations and every penny counts so a big thank you Suzanne.”
