• Cornish families nearly hit at tattoo air crash

By Stephen Ivall

TWO Cornish families had a narrow escape when the two Russian Mig 29 fighters collided in mid-air during an International Air Tattoo near Fairford, Gloucestershire, at the weekend.

Miraculously no one was injured although for many it was the fright of their lives.

Jack Prowse and Keith Avis were spending a few days with their families at a caravan rally adjacent to the air field where the displays were taking place.

When the two jets collided Mr Prowse, who lives near Crankie, was in the airfield with Mr Mike Helson of Polgooth, near St Austell.

Mr Avis, from Mylor, was sitting outside his camper with his son-in-law Stephen Burley, also from Mylor, watching and videoing the display. By the time one of the Migs came over after the collision it was just 30 foot off the ground and about to crash.
