On Thursday July 5, Camborne Science and International Academy hosted its annual Primary Sports Alliance Presentation Evening, seeing over 200 children nominated to receive awards.

“Our awards event is a culmination and celebration of the hard work and dedication to PE and school sport that has taken place throughout the year, both within primary school as well as inter school competitions,” said Tamsin Hosking, Primary Sports Alliance Coordinator.

The children were nominated by each of their primary schools for a variety of sports awards, including most committed, most improved, volunteering, athlete of the year and also the netball and football league winners.

Tamsin said: “We have some very talented young people in Cornwall who have the potential to do incredible things! Our awards evening is about celebrating these young people; those who have shown commitment, dedication, hard-work and enthusiasm to the sport and physical activity opportunities that they have been provided with!”

Participating schools included: Penponds School, Rosemellin School, St. Meriadoc Junior Academy, Trevithick Learning Academy, Weeth School, Troon Primary, Connor Downs Primary, Gwinear Primary School and St. Johns Catholic Primary School.

Tamsin went on to say: “Over 50 children also took part in a variety of performances during the evening, including dance performances from Rosemellin and Weeth Schools,

“CSIA Dance Academy also performed, as well as our Gifted and Talented combined schools dance project with students from each Primary School who worked with external dance company; Vox Dance.”

Camborne Primary Sports Alliance was formed in response to the London Olympic Games, to establish a collaborative approach to develop and sustain high quality PE and sport provision in primary schools now and for the future.

Winners included Athletes of the Year Aimee-Jean Holsey from Trevithick Learning Academy and Jacob Bennetts from Connor Downs Academy, as well as an Excellence in Developing School Sport Award presented to Weeth School.

Principal at CSIA, Ian Kenworthy, added: “Camborne Primary Sports Alliance has been dedicated to creating new opportunities for all primary students, inspiring the generation to do more and live healthy active lifestyles.

“We want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in making the evening such a success, especially to our Primary Head teachers and Primary sports coordinators without whom the alliance would not exist.”
