Falmouth and Helston Police have issued a warning to parents to be vigilant this weekend following the drug related death of a 15-year-old girl.

Posting on Twitter the local force said: "In light on the recent death of a young girl in Camborne, parents need to be vigilant if their teenage children are heading to mass youth gatherings as it is possible that similar harmful substances will be present at these gatherings."

Shakira Pellow, 15, from Camborne took what is thought to be a blue triangular tablet with a Lego Duplo logo last Friday night.

She died in hospital the following morning while two girls and a boy, all aged 15, also suffered from toxic after-effects but have since been discharged.

The tragic teen was successfully resusciated twice on the way to hospital but couldn't be brought back to life after a third massive heart attack.

Once they arrived at hospital Shakira was put into an induced coma and on life support with mum Rita and other family members by her bedside.

In a statement the family said: "For us, her family, it was the longest night of our lives.

"She was stable, however during the early hours, her condition worsened and her organs began to fail.

"They had to put Shakira on dialysis but after a third heart attack and 13 minutes of resuscitation there was no coming back.

"Sadly our beautiful baby girl, sister and auntie was gone. She died in her mother's arms and with us all by her side, holding her hand."

Cops seized the substance they had taken for tests but Shakira's family said they wanted to issue a warning to other youngsters about the dangers of drugs.

The statement added: "As the family of Shakira Louise Pellow, we are all devastated about the circumstance of her death and we want to raise with the risks of taking drugs.

"Shakira was a young, bubbly girl with her whole life ahead of her. Words cannot even explain how we are all feeling at this time, we are all absolutely heartbroken.

"We want to just get the word out to parents, grandparents, teenagers, anyone who reads this to become more aware of the effects of drugs. They're not fun, they kill.

"We would not wish what we have been through over the past 48 hours on our worst enemy."

The family said that on Friday evening, Shakira was excited to meet up with her friends.

They added: At about 9pm she left with her friends to go to the park to meet up with other friends.

"About an hour later Shakira's mum Rita and her partner Lee get a knock at the door saying Shakira has collapsed."
