A shower for homeless people could be installed in the public toilets at Grove Place in Falmouth.

The idea was thought up by Falmouth and Penryn Churches together, who would fund and maintain the shower if it was put in.

Falmouth town councillors voted in favour of the idea in principle at a meeting on Monday (July 16).

Councillor Patricia Minson said: "It's just a basic need, isn't it, being clean?"

Linda Coles, who proposed the idea, said: "Street Pastors have noticed that there have been more rough sleepers recently and we have been asking them what their top priority is, when it comes to need.

"Without exception they have all replied with the answer that they would like a shower and to be able to wash their clothes.

"With this in mind I have spoken to Falmouth and Penryn Churches Together and we are wondering if Falmouth Town Council would be able to provide us with an area for us to make this possible."

The town council consulted with Falmouth and Penryn Churches together and a local plumber to find a suitable location for the public shower.

It was decided that the best place to install the shower would be in the Grove Place toilets as they have baby changing facilities that are separate from the toilets and could be accessed for maintenance without input from the council.

Councillors mentioned that a new location would have to be found for the baby changing facilities.
