A six year old boy has been given a £1,000 grant by Falmouth Town Council to fund his gymnastics training.
The boy's mother, who did not want him to be identified, broke down in tears of joy upon hearing the council's decision to provide the money.
She had initially applied for a £500 grant to fund 5 months of training, but councillor Roger Bonney proposed that they be given £1,000 to use at their disposal instead, with any leftover money being returned.
The boy's mother said: "Thank you so much, we can't thank you enough. We'll let you know how he gets on!"
The young gymnast was headhunted for his bar skills, and plans to compete in the county competitions in October and national competitions in February.
He will be trained for between six and ten hours per week, funded by the money that the council is providing.
