Four people were taken to hospital this morning due to a fire near Paradise Park in Hayle.

The house fire broke out at around 7am and Trelissick Road was closed in both directions at around 7.30am.

Access remained to the Paradise Park wildlife and bird sanctuary, which is also in Trelissick Road, via Foundry Lane. It opened to the public as usual at 10am.

The sanctuary's Bird In Hand pub gave out cups of tea and coffee to the emergency services all morning and providing shelter to firefighters changing their breathing equipment.

Firefighters from Tolvaddon, Hayle and St Ives tackled the blaze at the detached property, which was "well alight" when they arrived.

Western Power and police were also at the scene.

A fire spokesperson said: "Fires happen when you least expect them, often during the night. They also spread very quickly, damaging property, killing and injuring people.

"A smoke alarm is a warning device that detects smoke at the earliest stages of a fire. When it detects a fire, it will make a piercing noise to alert or wake you."
