A FALMOUTH University student and his ex-RAF pilot dad rescued a drowning man from the water near Greenbank.

Coastguard Rescue Officer Steve Davey said: “They handled it very well, they seemed to know exactly what they were doing. The guy was going under and they made a judgement.

“Although we would recommend not going in, they did save this guy’s life in the end.”

Steve spoke about how the brave pair had just arrived at their hotel when they spotted a man struggling in the water and called the coastguard.

When the coastguard team and Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat arrived at the scene they found that the drowning man had already been pulled ashore by the heroic student and his dad.

The coastguard was called at around 7.20pm on July 9, and stood down at around 10.30pm after administering casualty care and seeing that the rescued man was put in an ambulance and taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

Steve insisted that it was not advisable for people to try and undertake rescues themselves as they could easily put themselves in danger.
