Coastguards were called to Lizard Point yesterday evening due to reports of a cliff fall as people gathered to watch the lunar eclipse.
The Mullion Coastguards team was paged just after 8.15pm, following a call from the Lizard Youth Hostel.
They reported that the cliff had begun to fall near to the old lifeboat station, at Polpeor, just along from Lizard Point.
A coastguard spokesperson said the team checked the area carefully and established there was no immediate threat, although the call was made with good intentions.
The spokesperson added: “The team ensured area was safe and no further immediate risk was posed. However, due to the large numbers of people gathering at the point hoping to see the lunar eclipse we remained on scene for a patrol to ensure everyone's safety.”
