Residents and visitors are being encouraged to come and shop in Truro City Centre until up to 8pm following a late-night shopping trial initiated by Truro’s Business Improvement District.

Starting this week, Truro Summer Nights will give people a chance to spend an evening in the city every Wednesday throughout August and enjoy shopping, something to eat and drink and some light street entertainment.

BID manager Alun Jones said: "Offering Truro Summer Nights will hopefully prove that late night shopping in our great little city doesn’t have to be just for Christmas. If successful we hope to extend late night shopping to all school holidays and then we'd be looking to have late night shopping extended all year round, which would be a major change for Truro and Cornwall.

"It won't be a full opening like we have in the run up to Christmas, however already 40 shops, including some big names, have confirmed they will be part of it. Truro’s fantastic variety of restaurants and takeaways will be open as usual too.”

People can also park for free in Cornwall Council long stay car parks in Truro after 4pm and Cornwall Council short stay car parks after 5pm (which is offered seven days a week).

The initiative aims to boost trade in the summer months and attract visitors to Cornwall who may not stay in Truro, encourage daily commuters to extend their day and other residents in Cornwall to visit the city for the evening.

Truro Summer Nights will include some light street entertainment and music including Samba, Brass and Acoustic.

The Farmers Market on Lemon Quay which takes place on Wednesdays is looking to extend its operating hours to match the Truro Summer Nights opening hours.

Some of the stores opening until late include M&S, Newlook, Next, TK Maxx, Primark, and Wilko as well as a good range of Truro’s fantastic independent shops.
