Falmouth's harbour master has issued a warning to rival boating companies after a fight broke out on Custom House Quay last Wednesday (August 1).

Employees from two different local boat companies had to be separated by onlookers after a fight broke out at around 1pm on the busy quay.

Simon Jones is a fisherman who works from Custom House Quay. Referring to one of the parties involved in the fight, he said: "These are running riot down there and nobody's doing anything about it. They're like a pack of animals down there, wherever they go there's trouble."

Harbour master Mark Sansom has warned the two companies involved to remember the obligations of their lease agreements, and has stated that the current arrangement on Custom House Quay will be reviewed at the end of the season.

He said: "We are aware of a disturbance on Custom House Quay that occurred last Wednesday and is currently under investigation by the Police.

"We understand that the trigger for the disturbance was the selling of boat trips by rival companies operating from huts on the Quay.

"Falmouth Harbour Commissioners are very concerned about this occurrence and have taken steps to remind both parties involved of their obligations under their lease agreements.

"We will continue to monitor the situation closely and plan to review the current arrangements at the end of the season."

A member of one of the companies contacted the Packet to say that the altercation started after the rival company lowered their prices.
