I fear Mrs C is becoming Felicity Kendal which may make me Richard Briers, but there’s something resembling The Good Life at Cowell Towers this week.

First came the orchard; due to the bee hotel, (some vacancies still available) but now we have a huge herb garden, too.

“Do we have room for all this…stuff?” I asked Mrs C.

“We use fresh herbs every day – so we are making room.” She said, stuffing dill and oregano next to her burgeoning mint plant.

“Fine, now go wash your hands because we are going out for brunch.”

When I first moved to Falmouth I lived very close to The Moor. Nowadays it’s a lot different, full of vibrant pubs and cafes.

Arwenack Street and Discovery Quay may be home to Falmouth’s restaurant quarter but I like to think The Moor is the place to go for breakfast or brunch. I am a big fan of Palacio Lounge and the Good Vibes Café, but my new favourite is Bahama Mamas.

It was opened earlier this year by John Duncan, who owns the popular Cribbs restaurant in Arwenack Street.

The tapas-style menu reflects Duncan’s love of Caribbean food but also his take on some British classics. Mrs C opted for the poached eggs on a bed of garlicky spinach which she claimed was “immensely satisfying and just what I needed.”

I was a little more adventurous and chose the chorizo stew cooked in red wine with kidney beans and vine tomatoes. There is a huge section of the menu devoted to vegan and vegetarian choices and the cocktails look amazing.

It was also good to note that Bahama Mamas supports the Plastic-Free Falmouth campaign.

I love sitting outside eating on The Moor in the sunshine, it is a quaint and historic part of Falmouth and we should all try and support these cafes and pubs throughout the year.

Back at Cowell Towers, Mrs C was preparing to plant what looked like Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme – and a song went through my head.

“What’s for dinner, tonight?” I asked her.

“I thought I might make a herb omelette – what do you think?”

All I could think of was a huge plate of steak and chips…
