A sea of pink swept through Falmouth last night for the 2018 Pink Wig event.

Raising money for breast cancer causes in Cornwall and Breast Cancer Now for the last nine years, the ladies-only event has grown into a sell-out night attracting hundreds of women.

They paraded through Falmouth from The Moor to Events Square, led by Falmouth Marine Band complete with wigs, where there was partying into the night with music from The Strutts and DJ Nate Valentino, along with a cocktail bar, raffle and photo booth.

This year's theme was the Wild West, leading to lots of cowgirls, Native American women and even the odd show girl.

It is hoped that this year’s event will break the £100,000 threshold of fundraising over the years, with £20,000 raised last year alone.

The first Pink Wig night was held in 2009 when a group of friends went out to support Sally Hicks-Wood at the start of her cancer treatment. They decided to wear pink wigs and the fundraising phenomenon was born. Sadly Sally, founder of the charity, died in 2015, but a dedicated committee including Emma Kent, Kath Stivey, Sue and Naomi Morant, Michelle Bray and Jay Wicks has continued the night in her memory.

As has become traditional, the night kicked off another Falmouth Week, with events taking place all this week including the carnival tonight and the Red Arrows on Tuesday.
