Police at Boardmasters have revealed that during the five-day festival, just 15 thefts were reported, compared to 60 during 2017; a reduction of 75 per cent.
Superintendent Ian Drummond-Smith from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Any festival of this size and scale attracts some criminality, however this year the number of thefts were exceptionally low. This follows a security operation by both the police and event organisers, who work closely together on a security plan for the festival.
"This follows proactive police operations in London, Plymouth and on the A30 in Cornwall, where a further nine arrests were made to prevent criminals making it down to Cornwall for the festival.”
Supt Drummond-Smith also revealed that officers had arrested two men, following a short pursuit on the A30: “We intercepted two 35 year-old men from Eastbourne on the A30 and following a police pursuit, the vehicle stopped on the A30 at Okehampton.
"Twenty mobile telephones were in the car, which we believe were stolen. Some of these mobile telephones have not been reported as stolen yet, so we are in the process of identifying and contacting the owners, so we can reunite them with their property. Both men have been released on police bail to return to Newquay Police Station on 7 September.
“There is one serious matter that we are investigating following an allegation of a rape on the campsite at the festival; The victim is a 16-year-old female from Somerset. A 17-year-old man from East Grimstead, West Sussex was arrested on suspicion of rape and he has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
“We work together with the event to identify and intercept drug dealers and have had some good results this year. We made 11 arrests in connection to drugs supply offences. Ten have been released under investigation pending forensic testing."
Another man from New Malden in Surrey was charged with three counts of possession with intent to supply a class A and class B drug.

He has since appeared at Bodmin Magistrates Court and has been remanded in custody to appear at Truro Crown Court on September 4.

Supt Drummond-Smith added: “We enjoy a very productive relationship with the event organisers and on-site security, which means by working together the safest possible festival takes place.”
