A YOUNG hair stylist from a Falmouth salon has won a place on the 2018 TIGI Inspirational Youth team.

Megan Nicholls, who works at Inkfish, applied for inspirational youth in London and from thousands of applicants from all over the country, she won her place.

Carla Seviour, who runs Inkfish Falmouth, said: "She will be gaining knowledge and experience from some of the best hairdressers in the world and bringing it back to home to us!"

Founder of TIGI Inspirational Youth Anthony Mascolo, knows the support he received from his brothers played a crucial part in his future success. In turn, he wanted to give opportunity to talented young hairdressers and help them on their personal career journey.

Now in its 14th year, TIGI Inspirational Youth is a mentorship programme taking young hairdressers on a life-changing voyage to develop creativity and talent.

Many former team members have gone on to be very successful in the global hairdressing industry, recognised and respected by their peers as session stylists, educators and salon owners.

The 17 young finalists attended the TIGI Academy in London for a nerve-wracking selection process to choose the 2018 TIGI Inspirational Youth team.

Each of the finalists was required to cut and colour a head-block under the watchful eyes of the TIGI Creative Team members, before presenting their inspiration and finished work to a panel of judges including Mr Mascolo.

The 10 successful hairdressers from salons across the UK now go on to the Inspirational Youth Bootcamp, taking place at Bed Head Studio in London at the beginning of September.

During the Bootcamp week, the team will be mentored by the senior TIGI International Creative Team, led by TIGI European Creative Director, Akos Bodi, TIGI European Session Director, Maria Kovacs and TIGI Global Academy Technical Director, Warren Boodaghians.

The Bootcamp includes intense training in classic and advanced cut and colouring, session styling, future fashion forecasting, presentation skills and, the highlight of the week, a model casting and photo shoot.

Shot at Bed Head Studio by TIGI in-house photographer, Alex Barron-Hough, with fashion stylist JIV D, the photographic collection will be sent to UK trade magazines and shared on social media.

Following the TIGI Inspirational Youth Bootcamp, the team will go on to participate in an exclusive show on November 12 at London’s Café de Paris.
