The weather may not have been so sizzling as in recent weeks but there was plenty of heat in the kitchen when The Lizard hosted its annual Big Cornish Breakfast event.

Landewednack School was the venue for the fundraising breakfast on Saturday, all in aid of the Lizard lifeboat. During the morning 180 fried breakfasts were cooked and served by members of the station's fundraising committee and a team of volunteer helpers.

Now in its fifth year the annual event was again hailed as another resounding success, raising over £1,000 for the lifeboat and its lifesaving work.

Birthday greetings were paid during the morning to volunteer fundraiser Rachel Tonkin, who was celebrating her 80th birthday. Rachel has been fundraising for the Lizard lifeboat for nearly 40 years and was presented with a rose plant aptly named “Rachel” by Lizard lifeboat chairman Dr Chris Cuff.

Lifeboat spokesperson Lyndsay Bray said: "Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed their breakfast in aid of the lifeboat, and much appreciation to the team of extra volunteer helpers who worked tirelessly throughout the morning.

"Sincere thanks also to Sainsbury’s Helston for their generous donation of butter and fresh bread for the event."

The annual Lizard Lifeboat Day will be held this Sunday at the station in Kilcobben Cove. The events begin at noon, with everyone welcome.
