A well-loved Falmouth restaurant has closed its doors after 9 and a half years on the high street.

Samphire Bistro on Arwenack Street served its last ever meal yesterday evening (Thursday August 16) after feeding the people of Falmouth for nearly a decade.

The popular restaurant received smashing reviews over the years and had a 4.5 out of 5 rating on Tripadvisor.

The restaurant's Facebook page posted the following message: "With a heavy heart after 9 1/2 wonderful years, Samphire Bistro will be closing its doors this evening Thursday 16th August.

"We have developed many friendship and loyal customers. Thank you to all our staff & massive Thank you for supporting us!

"We will miss you all!"

Some of the glowing reviews from patrons included the following: "Had best cream tea I have ever had. I come from Devon so to say this is not being true to my home but it was really lovely and very well presented"

Another diner said: "My expectation was for something simple. [It] was so outside of that! The food was superb (all local so we were told) the wine was excellent and an astute choice by the waitress... I could go on, but suffice to say, ignore the other restaurants, this is the one to eat in."
