Gig rowers from around Cornwall have gathered in Porthleven for a day of competitive rowing.

Porthleven Gig Day has been underway all morning, pitting some of the best crews in the area against each other.

They include crews from Coverack, Falmouth, Pendeen and London Cornish, all competing against the Porthleven home crews.

Spectators have been lining the harbour walls to see the crews meet in the inner harbour before rowing out to open water for the racing.

Conditions have been good, with a dry and bright day so far.

At the end of the day’s racing, crews and spectators will gather in a marquee on the Harbour Head for an evening of food and live music.

The event is part of the wider Porthleven Maritime Weekend, which included Porthleven Town Band Prom last night and Lifeboat Day tomorrow, which will begin at 10am with stalls and activities, followed by the Penlee lifeboats arriving a bit later for a display with the Coastguard Search & Rescue Helicopter ‘Rescue 924' brought forward to 12 noon, weather and operational commitments permitting.
