A STITHIANS man who carried an axe in a public place has been given a suspended jail term by Truro magistrates.

Sean Oliver Bowman, aged 38, of Trevales Wood, pleaded guilty to the offence which took place on October 12 in Penzance.

Bowman also admitted actual bodily harm and was given a 26-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

The reason for custody was that it was "utterly unprovoked and caused significant damage and ongoing physical and mental effect on the victim".

He was ordered to pay £1,000 and ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

He has also been banned from the London Inn pub in Penzance for 12 months.

A WOMAN from Helston has been left with an electronic tag and a restraining order against her after she beat someone.

Katrina Clayton, of Church Street, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting a person in Penzance on June 18, including by beating him.

Magistrates in Truro ordered that 38-year-old Clayton be placed under curfew for eight weeks, between 7pm and 7am each day until October 28, with electronic monitoring. She must also take part in rehabilitation.

Magistrates also imposed a three-year restraining order banning her from contacting an individual except via a solicitor, family proceedings or social services, or to go to an address in Crowlas. Clayton was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £135 and an £85 victim surcharge.

A FALMOUTH man's licence was taken away for drink driving.

Jordan Samuel Jane, 21, of Waterloo Road, was caught driving on North Parade in Falmouth with 92 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, when the legal limit is 80.

He pleaded guilty and was fined £80 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and £85 court costs. He was also disqualified from driving for 14 months.

A WOMAN from Camborne was fined for stealing an iPhone and £40 worth of cash.

Susan Jayne Griffiths, 43, of Church Lane, pleaded guilty to the theft which she committed in Penzance on June 9.

The total value of her takings was £490.

She was fined £80 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and prosecution costs of £85.

A MAN from Truro was handed a suspended prison sentence for driving without a valid licence or insurance.

Richard Lewis Hall, 37, of Trelander Highway, pleaded guilty to driving in Truro's Boscawen Street without a valid licence or insurance on June 17.

He was given a 8 weeks sentence suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay compensation of £300, a victim surcharge of £115 and £85 prosecution costs.

A SCORRIER man was given a home curfew and electronic tag for possessing drugs.

Gary Fletcher Hook, 45, of Wheal Rose, was found with 0.2 grams of diamorphine (heroin) on June 11 in Redruth.

He pleaded guilty and must now stay at home between 7pm and 7am from Monday to Wednesday.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and £85 court costs.

A MAN from Redruth will carry out 200 hours of unpaid work after being caught in possession of 58.65 grams of cannabis and stealing a car in Falmouth.

Damian John Lee Hooper, 28, of Tresavean Hill, pleaded guilty to four charges relating to possession of drugs, taking a car without permission and driving without a valid licence.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and court costs of £85.

A WOMAN from Redruth was given a home curfew and electronic tag for stealing and driving without a valid licence.

Leanne Marie Osborne, 33, from Redruth, must stay at home between 7pm and 7am between Friday and Sunday for three months.

She pleaded guilty to stealing £267 worth of cosmetics and driving without a valid licence.

A CHACEWATER woman was handed a 24 week suspended prison sentence for several counts of benefit fraud.

Wendy Moriarty, 49, of Dunstan Place, failed to notify Cornwall Council about an increase in her household income and attempted to gain carers allowance when she wasn't entitled to it.

She pleaded guilty and was given a 24 week suspended sentence and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115 and court costs of £85.

TWO MEN were given electronic curfews after being found jointly in possession of 232 grams of cannabis.

Sean Patrick Burns, 18, of St Georges Hill in Perranzabuloe, and Nathan David Elson, 20, of Chapel Town in Newquay, pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs with intent to supply.

They will now have to stay home between 7.30pm and 6am every day for eight weeks.

They were also each ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and court costs of £135.
