Clothing company Seasalt has clarified its partnership with the NHS in which it has provided coats to staff in Cornwall at a reduced cost.

The company initially announced in a press release that it had donated 350 raincoats to nurses working out in the community, but has this morning amended that statement to say that the coats had actually been provided at "a special rate."

A spokesperson for the company, which has its head office in Falmouth, said: "One of the community nursing teams raised the suggestion that having a 'work coat' could really make a difference to their working lives when out and about delivering nursing care in the community, so they purchased coats from Seasalt at a special rate.”

The partnership follows a conversation between Seasalt chief executive officer Paul Hayes and Phillip Confue, chief executive of Cornwall NHS Foundation Trust, after a staff “Have your say” day.

The nurses have been provided with Maenporth Coats - hip-length coats with hoods that are described by the company as “waterproof, windproof and breathable.”

Seasalt’s founder director Neil Chadwick said: “We are delighted to be able to keep our local NHS staff comfortable in what must be a challenging work environment at times.

“We hope our coats will keep the nurses warm and dry for years to come, and would like to thank them for all they do looking after our local community.”
