BUDOCK WATER:

ST BUDOCK PARISH CHURCH: The church was packed for the service of Sung Eucharist on Sunday despite the appalling weather. The congregation included several young families whose children joined in the activities of Junior Church.

The service was led by the Rev Geoffrey Bennett and the organist was Robert Fletcher.

Lessons were read by Dr P Garland and Mr A Bennett, with Mr Bennett reading the Gospel.

Mr Bennett's sermon emphasised the need to spread the love and word of God to as many people as possible, within the parish and beyond.

Intercessions were led by Mrs J Downie. The children of the Junior Church joined the congregation for Communion later in the service.

On Sunday, there will be an exchange of pulpits organised by Falmouth Churches Together and the Rev C Blizzard of Emmanuel Baptist Church will be preaching at St Budock.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE: In the absence of the president and secretary, due to illness, the meeting was ably run by the vice-president, Ann Richardson, assisted by assistant secretary, Cynthia Bradley.

Items discussed included the visit, just before Christmas, to Marks and Spencers. This was enjoyed by all who attended and thanks were extended to the store.

The 50th birthday lunch will take place at the Penmorvah Hotel on February 28. Menus were distributed and meals chosen by members. Invitations have been sent to the county chairman, county advisor and twin WI. There was a spirited discussion on the entertainment for the event and after a series of votes it was decided that a pianist would be the most suitable.

Nomination papers were distributed for next year's committee to be elected at next month's AGM. Members were reminded to provide items for the sales table.

Lynn and Jean had collected photographs of members when they were children. These were displayed for members to identify. Some were very easy but others proved quite difficult and when the members were revealed it caused a lot of hilarity.

Ann then congratulated Pat Blake on her Golden Wedding and Mary Spiller on attaining her 90th birthday.

After the usual delicious tea the meeting closed at 4pm.
