A SPECIAL service of dedication has been held at St Mary's Church in Chedzoy to unveil new décor.

The congregation gathered around as the Reverend Chris Keys blessed a new frontal and wooden cross for the side altar.

The beautiful frontal, which represents the four seasons, was designed by Avril Johnson and was stitched by Avril, Sue Bellaers and Linda Friend, who are all members of the congregation.

The cross was made from English chestnut by Don Johnson, Avril's husband. It echoes the shape of the gold-work cross at the centre of Avril's design, and the grain of the wood reflects the stitches.

A spokesman said: "The congregation was delighted by the splendid cross, and agreed that the stunning appliqué frontal has brought a much needed splash of colour to a dark corner of the church."
