TREWENNACK
TREWENNACK METHODIST CHURCH: On Maundy Thursday the Rev Sylvia Burgoyne led a Sacrament service when a supper of soup and rolls was shared in the hall. After an enactment of Jesus washing His disciples feet, everyone processed into the chapel which was lit by candles to symbolise the torches in the Garden of Gethsemane. The service ended with Bible readings and prayers.
Good Friday morning service was conducted by the Rev Geoffrey Thorpe. The Lent devotions were by Colin and Eileen Combellack, who placed a hammer and nails at the foot of the cross. During the meditations, The Rev Geoffrey spoke about the death of Jesus as a voluntary act - Jesus gave His life. It was also a vicarious act as Jesus was the perfect vicar, being the representative of God to the people and praying for the people to God. Our Lord's death was a victorious act, when victory over sin and evil was won for us all.
Margaret Eva was the pianist and traditional Easter buns were served in the hall after the service.
The service on Easter Day was led by Mr Chris Smith and was the last in the series of journeying with Jesus. The symbols of the cruelty of Jesus' crucifixion were stripped from the Lenten Cross by the Phillips family and replaced with flowers to symbolise the resurrection. Chris used a blindfold and hidden Easter eggs to show the young people that we need a guide who knows the way on our journey through life. The Bible readings from John 20 and Luke 24 were by Fiona Phillips and Paul Brown. Chris then spoke about Jesus as a servant, a sacrifice and a saviour. Margaret Eva was the organist and Jenny Rapson was the pianist. Jo Rapson was on the drums and Ruth Drew led the community singing before the service.
CHYNHALE CHAPEL: A large congregation attended the Easter Sunday morning service at Chynhale when the preacher was Sarah Fuller, of Breaney.
She related the story of the first Easter and events leading up to it. Everyone joined in a chorus before the children went to their own lessons. Those taking part in the service were Joan Willerton, Crete Pooley, Gillian Lawrance, Quintin Dale, Kevin Moseley and Sonny Maistre.
At the close, she presented Easter eggs to all the young people on behalf of the chapel. The vestry steward was Kevin and Roy Gilbert welcomed people to the service. The beautiful spring flowers, provided by Sonny, were arranged by Vera Hill and Ann Hocking.
Last Wednesday, the monthly prayer and praise met at 12 noon and was led by Hazel Hockin. A light lunch followed.
