Cornwall Vets League 4
West Cornwall Sunday League 1
FORMER Cornwall strike mark Rapsey stole the show in an entertaining match at Penzance's Penlee Park on Sunday when he notched all four goals in Cornwall Vets 4-1 win against the West Cornwall Sundy League.
The Vets played some tremendous pass and move football to overcome there more youthful opponents.
The county had six Hayle players in their starting line up and they all played a major part in the victory.
Captain John McCullum whipped in a great cross to the far post and Mark Rapsey headed it back across 'keeper Mike Williams for a 12th minute lead.
Ten minutes later Rapsey ran on to a pinpoint ball from Dave Cooper to lob the stranded 'keeper from 25 yards and Vets 'keeper Denis Fallowfield made sure the score stayed at 2-0 with a brilliant reflex save from Mike Cudlipp.
Williams did well to keep out a McCullum pile driver on the hour but the game was over as a contest on 65 minutes when sub Steve Winters sent in a corner and Rapsey powerfully headed into the roof of the net to complete a fine hat-trick.
The Sunday XI pulled a consolation goal back from the penalty spot through Dan Richards, but the final word was left to Cornwall. With five minutes remaining a great move involving Barry Andrews and Shane Hickling (both St Columb) ended with Shaun Quinn drilling an inch perfect 40 yard crossfield pass to ace marksman Rapsey who produced a great first touch and finished to take his personal tally to four and complete a man of the match performance.
n In the Cornwall and Devon Supplementary Cup quarter-finals, Downderry Rovers went through on penalties against St Agnes after drawing 1-1, Tamarside won 4-2 against an eight-man Trevenson United and it proved a bad day all round for St Agnes when their A side lost 2-1 at Tintagel.
