As the final programme for the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta is put to gether in addition to the visiting vessels during the four days in September there will be an extensive programme of activities throughout the town including markets, music, entertainment, exhibitions and a firework spectacular.

But SAGA is the main sponsor of the huge firework display which will take place in Falmouth Harbour on Friday September 12 at 9.30 pm and at which thousands of people are expected to attend on land and on the water.

Last April, Saga launched a "Tall Ships Regatta Cruise" giving its customers a unique opportunity to follow the start of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta on Saga Ruby.

The cruise proved extremely popular and sold out within a few months. Departing from Dover on September 11, Saga Ruby calls at Falmouth the following day for an overnight stop where passengers can enjoy the festive atmosphere and the firework display and then Saga Ruby will cruise alongside the Tall Ships on their first leg of the race, heading to Ilhavo in Portugal.

To enable a truly spectacular display three local companies - A&P Falmouth, Pendennis Ship Yard and Falmouth Oil Services have also made financial contributions to the display.

A&P Managing Director Peter Child said: "We at A&P Falmouth are all really looking forward to hosting the Tall Ships. It is a superb event for Falmouth and Cornwall and it is pleasing that the three main employers in Falmouth Docks have worked together to support this occasion and show their appreciation to all the organisers and participants. Hopefully the fireworks will be a great finale to the Tall Ships visit and everyone will enjoy them."

Toby Allies, head of sales and marketing for Pendennis Ship Yard said; "Local superyacht yard "Pendennis" is proud to support this year's Tall Ships fireworks. The yard celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2008, the last 20 years has seen Pendennis grow into a leading organisation in the global superyacht market and has become one of Falmouth's largest employers.

Paul Denmead, terminal manager of Falmouth Oil Services added: "Falmouth Oil Services are pleased to support the firework display during the Tall Ships visit to our port and wish the people of Falmouth and visitors a memorable experience of this event"

I bet there is going to be fireworks from the Lib Dems as the Tall Ships is being talked about as one big Conservative Junket for the Tory Candidate. I now see on the website there is a big Tory boozing Tall Ship Sail at a cool £60 a ticket.
