Plans for a multiplex cinema in Falmouth were approved this morning and work is expected to start as soon as possible.
The Drill Hall in Berkley Vale is to be transformed internally into a five-screen cinema showing up-to-the-minute films, although the outside of the listed building will remain largely unchanged.
Plans were approved earlier today at a meeting at Carrick district council.
The Merlin Cinemas chain - which already has eight other branches across Cornwall and Devon - will carry out the work and operate the attraction.
Geoff Greaves, from Merlin Cinemas, said: "We've wanted to come to Falmouth for a number of years. It's very exciting."
He added that the company hoped to begin work on the building as soon as possible, with the aim of being up and running by Christmas or just after.
