Fresh from a stunning run in the London Marathon, RNLI Inspector Simon Pryce is planning to triple his efforts at the Royal Cornwall Show.

He's hoping to achieve three marathons in three days at the Wadebridge event, which starts on Thursday.

The punishing challenge will be based on the RNLI stand (244) where Simon will pound away at the miles on a treadmill.

Simon (43) who works from the RNLI support base in Saltash surprised everyone by completing the London marathon in 3 hours and 32 minutes. It was the start of what is fast becoming an obsession: "I made a rash promise that if I did well in London, I would then go on to run in the New York marathon in November. That's all booked but I need to keep my fitness up, so this challenge is part of a regime aimed at ensuring I'm ready for action. The Cornish coastline represents a heartland of traditional RNLI lifeboating so it seemed right that I should undertake this venture at our famous and popular county show. Please do come and visit me, have a laugh and leave a few coins.' "It costs £1,000 a year to train one volunteer crew member in vital subjects such as navigation, boat handling, first aid and sea survival. My ultimate aim is to raise £35,000 to train one person at each of the 25 lifeboat stations in my area. I've already reached £6,000 and I thank all those who've already sponsored me."

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) always support the Royal Cornwall Show and have in the past been featured as one of the event's chosen charities. This year the main RNLI stand will feature the Crew Training Simulator, which offers visitors the chance to experience being a lifeboat volunteer. The stand (244) is sited near the funfair and steam engines.

This year the RNLI has launched a new campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of RNLI lifeguards and the charities changing role from a lifeboat service to a lifeboat and lifeguard service. It's called RNLI lifeboats, lifeguards, Life first and you can find out more by visiting the Total Butler Fuel stand (26) by the main entrance, where the campaigns new Volkswagen Caravanette will be featured.
