With a third of the season gone Mullion are still top of the Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League division three West with a five point advantage over St Just seconds. Crofty/Holman and Goldsithney are also well in contention.

On Saturday Mullion's fifth victory of the season came by the comfortable margin of 86 runs over visiting Gulval. Mullion opted to bat but lost Phil Wheatley cheaply with only 17 on the board. Trevor Lee and Jim Pearson then settled down to take the total to 64 before Lee was run out for 39. David Gray went for two and Pearson became Nigel Cock's second victim when he was bowled for 42.

David Dale made 22 but at 121 for 6 the home team had a few problems. Danny Gillman came to rescue to make a valuable 37 not out and he got great support from Tony Matthews with 19 and Malcolm Todd who retired on 21.

Maximum batting bonus points were gained as 203 for 8 was reached in the 48 overs.

Gulval never got any partnerships going with wickets falling at regular intervals. Roger Eddy made 25 and Shane Eddy 20. Gillman had a match to remember taking five for 33 from 11 overs. Matthews took two for 15 with Tom Retallack, Jeffrey Charlston and Lee all claiming one apiece. The end came at the beginning of the 35th over.

Mullion are at home again on Saturday with fifth placed Mount Ambrose visiting Garro Lane.

Mullion seconds lost some ground at the top of division six following a 21 run defeat at Crofty/Holman. The home side were well served by John Mankee (27) and Mark Eva (55) who added 60 for the first wicket, after winning the toss.

Mullion fought back to take all ten wickets with a couple of balls remaining. Robert Casley took three for 33 from 12 overs and Jonathan Gibbons three for 51. Josh Mathias and Robin Bates took two each.

The Mullion response was all about Daniel Johnson. Batting at four, he dominated the innings to make 72 before being seventh out at 118. Josh Mathias made 13 and Bruce Jordan 10 before being run out. The innings closed at 132 for 9 after 48 overs. Opening bowler Steve Ladner's five for 26 from 12 overs was a telling factor for the home side.

Mullion are at Wendron seconds this weekend.

Porthleven went down to a four wicket defeat against St Just seconds at Cape Cornwall Road to leave themselves eighth in the table with a game in hand.

St Just opted to bowl and tight bowling kept the Porthleven innings in check. Ronnie Williams went in the 13th over with only 16 on the board. He was followed by Jeff Carvelly at 18 for 2 off 16 overs. Dean Bray and JJ Walker took the total to 54 before both were dismissed in successive overs. Andy Bonnett increased the run rate to make 29 and Adam Young made 15 as the innings closed on a modest 122 for 7.

Conditions worsened during the St Just innings as the mist lowered. Brad Bury took a wicket in his first over with Andrew Osborne taking the catch at mid on to make it 25 for 1 off nine overs. Scott Rowe took advantage of a number of dropped catches to make 55. Wickets fell at the other end as JJ Walker took four for 27 from nine overs while a sub fielder from St Just effected a run out on one of his team mates. The winning runs came with ten overs to spare.

Porthleven are in action tonight with a Dawe Insurance Andrew Cup tie at home to St Ives. This is followed by Goldsithney's league visit on Saturday.

Porthleven 122-7 (A Bonnett 29; M Harvey 2-34, N Stephens 2-17, R Harvey 2-35), St Just 124-6 (S Rowe 55; JJ Walker 4-27). St Just (18 points) beat Porthleven (six) by four wickets.

Meanwhile at Porthleven the second XI were going down to an 82-run defeat at the hands of Leedstown seconds. Phil Harding took three for 29 as the visitors rattled up 200 all out in 45 overs. Andrew Robinson made 48 and David Smitheram 32. Only Colin Lee's 38 offered much with the bat for the home team who were all out for 112. Keith James took four for 22.

Porthleven are at Ludgvan seconds on Saturday.

Leedstown 200 (A Robinson 48, D Smitheram 32, A George 31; P Harding 3-29, K Kelly 2-41, M Chilton 2-56), Porthleven 112 (C Lee 38; K James 4-22, M Smitheram 2-12). Leedstown (20 points) beat Porthleven (seven) by 82 runs.

In division four Helston went down to their third defeat when they lost at home to Perranporth seconds. Defeat was by the margin of four wickets in a game at one stage they looked likely to win.

Greg Moore opened with 23 but the home innings got into trouble as Josh Ninnis, Steven Hosking, Chris Martin and Paul Bassett all went cheaply. The innings was saved by Tom Mitchell who made 55 and skipper Peter Boyd who hit 19. Helston were bowled out for 153 after 47 overs. Josh Sharpe took three for 33 and Ted Allsopp two for 10.

Boyd took an early wicket and Ian Laity claimed one to make it 26 for 2. Will Roberts made 36 before being caught off the bowling of Greg Moore with the score at 70. Moore then claimed another and with Boyd getting rid of Sharpe and Allsop the visitors collapsed to 80 for 6. However, a match winning partnership of an unbroken 74 runs frustratingly took the game away from Helston.

Terry Murrell made 51not out supported by Kevin Gibbard's 16 not out. Boyd took three for 22 from 12 overs and Moore two for 43.

Helston will hope for better fortunes at St Ives this Saturday.

Helston seconds lost to the division seven leaders Camborne fourths by six wickets at Roskear. Jason Crocker made 34 and Steve Bury 22 in the Helston total of 109. Matt Bennett then made 54not out and Martin Moon 42 as Camborne won in 30 overs. Guy Leathley took two for 18 from four overs.

Helston host Chacewater seconds on Saturday.

There was relief at last for Wendron on Saturday as they finally won their first game of the season. They still find themselves 12 points adrift at the bottom of the division two table however.

At Underlane they bowled Paul seconds out for 124 and went on to win by six wickets.

They will be looking for a similar story at Roskear on Saturday when they take on Camborne seconds Paul 124, Wendron 125-4 (Wendron 20 points) beat Paul (five) by six wickets Wendron seconds were unable to make it a club double as they went down to a four-wicket defeat at Boscawen Park against Truro fourths.

Callum Martin made 24 and Glenn Manning 21 as Wendron were dismissed for 98 in 41 overs. Paddy Mitton took five for 32. Truro recovered from 16 for 3 to win the game in the 40th over. Martin took three for 26 from ten overs and Nick Webber two for 12.
