Youngsters keen to be treated like royalty for a day are being invited to put themselves forward for a starring role at this year's Helston Harvest Fair carnival.

Carnival organiser Sue Atkinson is looking for a Fairy King and Fairy Queen to act as "figureheads" for the event, which takes places on Saturday, September 6.

Youngsters aged eight or under who are interested in the roles should attend the choosing ceremony at Helston cricket club at 6pm on Thursday, June 19.

Last year's harvest fair carnival was a major disappointment, with only one float entering and poor support in general.

Mrs Atkinson, who took a break from organising the event last year, said she was hoping the choosing ceremony would be a success and that that would in turn lead to a rejuvenated carnival.

She added that any parents who felt their child deserved to be treated like royalty for a day - perhaps because they had been particularly helpful or done someone a good turn or raised money for charity - should just turn up on the night at the cricket club off Clodgey Lane.

The carnival is just one aspect of the traditional harvest fair weekend. Preparations are well under way for the other main events, namely the horticultural and craft show, the pet and dog shows and the recently introduced skate day.
