The Royal Cornwall Show opened this morning and despite an absence of livestock from outside Cornwall because of bluetongue restrictions, the feeling among those attending was good and that agriculture in the county was buoyant.

Despite overnight rain, conditions at the showground are reasonable and organisers are hoping for a a busy three days.

An action packed programme is planned for all three days. This morning judging of cattle got off to an early start although entries were restricted.

Numerous events are being held in the main ring throughout the day including showjumping.

Horse classes began early at the western end of the showground and with this section not hit by blue tongue problems, entries have come from far and wide.

The show will have a royal visitor tomorrow, when the Princess Royal is due to officially open the new members' pavilion and tour the showground.
