Anyone who ever fancied buying a boat will be able to pick one up at a bargain price in Falmouth.

Falmouth Marine School are holding a boat auction, which will feature a range of boats built or restored by students on boatbuilding courses.

The boats on sale are constructed in wood or GRP and include three 21-foot traditional Cornish Luggers. The total value of the boats to be auctioned is estimated to be in the region of £30,000.

All boats will be on view, in front of the National Maritime Museum on Events Square, from Wednesday, giving prospective buyers ample time to inspect the boats.

The auction, which is supported by Bonhams and National Maritime Museum Cornwall, will then take place at 2pm on Saturday at the same venue.

It will be a bidding auction and anyone interested can register from 10am on the day of the sale. A list of boats is also available from the college website.

This is the College's very first Boat Auction and will be held alongside the International Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival.

At the event, people will be able to learn more about the courses offered at Falmouth Marine School.

Falmouth Marine School has a long history of providing boatbuilding courses and believe the best way to learn boatbuilding techniques is to undertake real hands-on experience.

Tom Shaw, head of Falmouth Marine School, said: "This is a great opportunity to view the boats that our students have been working on and learn about all the courses at Falmouth Marine School. Visitors will be able to talk to tutors and enquire about places on courses beginning in September 2008."
