DESPITE this being a worthy win on Saturday for now crowned ‘Counties 1 Tribute Western West’ champions Topsham, the scoreline does not give a fair reflection of the game, writes Phil Westren.
Third-placed Pirates Amateurs were well in this contest until nearing the end, and scored four tries in the match to earn a deserved bonus point. Centre Josh Semmens crossed the whitewash once and there was also a hat-trick for hooker Connor Bick. Fly-half Rhys Brownfield slotted two conversions.
Speaking at the end of the game, Pirates Amateurs’ head coach Murray Westren said: "The match proved a very evenly fought contest, in which we were well involved apart from a couple of late visiting scores at the end.
"Having said that Topsham were always slightly ahead and deserved the win, plus it is worth mentioning that full credit must go to them for performing the way they did, especially under the pressure of the league title being on the line."
