Hal-an-Tow, Jolly rumble O, so the lyrics say - and there was indeed a jolly rumble around Helston as Flora Day's famous pageant took place at different locations in the town.

The oldest part of the day, the Hal-an-Tow goes back centuries. Abandoned in the 19th century, it was revived again in 1930 and remains a colourful - and noisy - part of the day.

It started as always at St Johns Bridge, in St Johns Road and then followed a route around town including the Grylls Monument, outside Number 1 Cross Street and in front of the Guildhall, telling various stories including St Michael defeating the devil, St George killing the dragon and arrival of St Piran to Cornwall.

This year it was followed around town by a film crew from the new children's TV programme Treasure Tales, which will be shown on CBeebies later in the year.
