A committee behind the setting up of Cornwall's new unitary authority have come up with a new logo - and it is expected it will cause considerable discussion and receive much criticism.

It is said to be a dynamic new corporate identity made by members of the Implementation Executive.

"Based on the shield from Cornwall's ceremonial crest, the new logo is inspiring and dynamic, bringing a contemporary modern feel to the best of Cornish tradition. Interweaving lines of gold and black bring to mind the Cornish tartan and represent the ways in which Cornish communities connect together. The positive, dynamic lines of the design represent growth and movement," said a council statement.

David Whalley, who chairs the committee as well as being the current leader of the county council reckons: "it is creating a fresh new council for Cornwall and it is important that this is recognised with a new modern identity. However, we have not cast tradition aside. This new logo has elements of Cornish history at its very core."

Just how much it has all cost and what the public thinks is another matter. What do you think having looked at the log on the right? Your comments below please.

Looks fine, I have no problem with this. I hope we can now return to issues that are more important for the new executive.

Its dreadful and certainly doesn't represent Cornwall.

What a waste of time and Money, typical the council has lost it's priorities. Like a new logo will cure Cornwall's ills, better fit the money they had wasted was put into new affordable homes.

No St Piran's flag? No miners, fishermen, choughs etc? This logo represents Cornwall as much as EastEnders does. A typical local government waste of money. 80% of people polled by the District Councils said NO to a unitary authority, but we got one anyway, so they clearly won't listen to people who dislike the new logo.

This logo should be selling lottery tickets or something equally inane, totally meaningless.Only the English could conceive a thing like that, and say that it represented Kernow

Dreadful, it doesn't represent Kernow.

Must have taken them at least 5 minutes to dream up that design, and for David Walley (wally by name, wally by nature) to say that it has elements of Cornish history at its very core, must be living in cookoo land, just because it has the black and gold colours. He also says that it is creating a fresh new council for Cornwall, if that is the case why is he and his cronies still running the show, when 85% of the people who voiced their opinions by filling out special forms on the new unitry council voted against it.
They say that there are unfair voting in Zimbabwe, i am afraid to say that it is happening here in Cornwall with Walley running a close second to Mugabe, by saying what i say and want goes.

I took one look at this logo and thought "WOW WOWee...this logo is inspiring and dynamic, bringing a contemporary modern feel to the best of Cornish tradition with its interweaving lines of gold and black bringing to mind the Cornish tartan and representing the ways in which Cornish communities connect together and the positive, dynamic lines of the design representing growth and movement,"

I think the committee should be applauded for not spending vast amounts of money like some organisations do with new logo's.This must have cost at least 10 bob (or less)
Its not a picture of some seaweed is it ?

Andy, Camborne says...

Local Boy - comparing CCC and voting for the unitary status with Mugabe and the voting in Zimbabwe is completely over the top, thre's no comparison so don't make such a stupid comment like that please.
As for the logo, I like it. OK so it doesn't represent Cornwall itself in any way but we have such a strong identity here that it doesn't really matter (although I do think the Flag of St Piran should be in there!)

LOCAL BOY - I'm a FARAWAY LAD - but visit our lasse's relations in Falmouth - I agree totally with what you say - You may also not be allowed to fly the St Piran flag down there - buts it flying on our car up here!! Good Luck.

looks great! fresh, 2008 and sharp. Just like Cornwall IS'NT, its a shame all the old people moaning about just won't go with the time and forget the past. If you don't like Cornwall moving forward then move to Iraq.

Hey- Gazz- how about this- if you don't like Cornwall resisting change why don't you move to Iraq? And take all the 'waterside developments' and 'Brand Cornwall' sycophants with you pard!

Right ~~~like a logo is going to help Cornwall move fwd..WHOOPEE lets invest our money and move to Cornwall cos they got a great Logo

Cousin Jock, Falmouth says...

What was wrong with the existing Cornwall sign. It represented the entire county and was part of the tradition of Cornwall. Surely the county can "move forward" without the need of a feather duster.

If the new Cornwall council have time and money to sit and dream up a Logo, then perhaps they have a money pot and time to sort out some of the real issues like:- Road repairs, unblocking storm drains, cutting back foliage from the roads and footpaths, bringing the emergency services up to date, etc.etc.i.e all the things that seem to be ignored at the moment because they do not have time or money to sort out.
If the new council can operate with less numpty's in offices, perhaps some of the spare p***ks could be sent out to do more practical work like unblocking drains and cutting back foliage.

Stewart James, nottingham says...

Sassy, Bristol says...

There are so many other things this money could have been spent on that are far more important. Like unblocking drains making sure the roads are in good order. Combatting crime, and helping young people with new facilities for activities. Why does Cornwall need a new Logo anyway.

John, Truro says...
12:00pm Sun 29 Jun 08

Looks like it was designed by Common Purpose. Would be better suited to Iraq or some other Islamic place.

Rudio Oscar Clossof, Varna, Bulgaria says...

As a citizen of a former repressed Soviet Republic I see your new logo as marxist inspired. It is Islamic (Aljazeera logo), black, brown and yellow. There is not a shred of Cornwall in the logo. Just EU marxist brain washing.
However I do wish you well. We in Bulgaria love the real British people. Dovishdane.

Mr Lester Rowell, says...
7:42pm Sun 29 Jun 08

Cornwall doesn't need a new Logo. the Black & Amber, 15 balls, all for one & one for all has served this County well throughout history perfectly well.
The new Logo is probably for the non Cornish, Emmets, Hoot Toots, Oofas, and Interlopers, some of which are probably alien to this Country, never-mind this County.
The question is; How many of the new councillors names actually begin with TRE, POL or PEN?? or will the new council contaian no true Cornishmen??

mike champion, says...
8:12pm Sun 29 Jun 08

This emblem is awful, nothing Cornish about it at all. Plus where is the Cornish translation. This is typical of People with no idea about Cornwall making decissions on our behalf. Gaz and Co, just because Cornish People want something they identitfy with to be in the emblem, does NOT mean we are looking back. That is an ignorant attitude at best. Cornwall is moving forward, but us the Cornish want it to move forward in a Cornish way. If you do not like what the Cornish People want, then a one way trip over the Tamar is a choice.

this is an Islamic symbol and nothing this corrupt government does surprises me anymore. How long before the first mosque in Truro? Muslims are becoming the majority in many cities and the government are right behind them. Real British culture will soon be a thing of the past.

Bob Billington, Magor says...

The logo is awful, it looks Iranian not Cornish! How can David Whalley state "However, we have not cast tradition aside. This new logo has elements of Cornish history at its very core." what elements? & in what way? Where was the consultation on the final design? Heads should role for this-starting with Mr Whalley as he obviously has no idea of what it means to be Cornish and of Cornwall's place in British history, culture & tradition. Is Mr Whalley by any chance a Cornishman??

Alyn, Truro says...

Ahhh Committees you gotta luv em. Particularly non-elected, self important ones. I think I know what happened here - the committee members 'brainstormed' their ideas for several minutes without success, someone had a political objection to each idea. Then the Sherry and sandwiches ran out so the meeting had to be adjourned sharpish. They threw all their scribblings on the fire and then looked at it in awe - EUREKA! A logo was born!

This is yet another tragic waste of taxpayers money. In a time of impending recession it is sheer lunacy to waste so much money a this apalling logo. It resembles the monstrous Olympic Logo that also wasted public money. Who are these faceless people who decide to use such unpopular logo's. I hope that somebody see's sense and rejects this rubbish!
