THE team at a Helston car dealership and garage have paid tribute to one of their colleagues who this week, has celebrated his 60th year of employment.

On Friday the team at Yeomans, Helston paid tribute and celebrated their parts advisor, Roger Rowe’s 60th year of employment.

Roger started at the garage, formally known as Helston Garages, on Meneage Street on August 4, 1963, three years after it had been founded by David Carr's father.

In 1975, David and his wife Betty bought and took over the garage and started representing manufacturers in the South West such as Volkswagen, BMW, Ferrari and Volvo.

During his 60 years at the garage, Roger has seen several changes in the motor trade, including combustion to electric vehicles and MK1 Golfs to MK8 Golfs.

Roger now works part-time at the garage but continues going to work and working alongside the team. Roger told the Packet: “I have enjoyed working there over the years and of course, I have met lots of people in the motor trade.

“There’s been some ups and downs, but it's been good.

“I have made many friends over the years.

Roger will continue to work at the garage until he feels the time is right to say goodbye. He said: “I will carry on doing part-time for the moment and then see how it goes in the future.”

On the official date of his 60th year of employment, Yeomans staff joined general manager Andrew Cook in presenting Roger with gifts which included gardening equipment and a bottle of bubbly to celebrate his momentous achievement.

Andrew told the Packet: "Roger has travelled the country working within our business for the last 60 years and has made many lifelong friends.

"This is a true testament to his stamina and commitment to us and his willingness to embrace change.

“Everyone at Yeomans Volkswagen is immensely proud of Roger’s achievement and we really can't thank Roger enough for his dedication, hard work, and support that he has shown us all over the years.

“We hope Roger enjoys his new tools and of course the bottle of bubbly in his new greenhouse.”
