St Ives September Festival, Cornwall open studios details

The Open Studios programme ranges from the bigger venues like White’s Old Workshops in Porthmeor Road, where eight artists will be welcoming visitors, to the home and garden studios of individual artists.

The White’s contingent includes Stephanie Sandercock whose two-week Compass Exhibition with sculptor Julie Moselen at the nearby Crypt Gallery in Norway Square stretches into the opening week of the 15-day Festival which runs from September 9 to 23.

The next biggest group comprises of six potters and crafts people from the historic Gaolyard Studios in Dove Street, which evolved from the town’s prison into a collection of ceramic workshops.

Visitors are also invited to the Gaolyard’s annual Cup Sale and Drinks event from 5 to 7pm on Wednesday, September 13.

New venues this year include Camilla Dixon’s Attic Studio at The Guildhall in Street an Pol and Julie Doyle’s Upper Meadow Studio.

As well as the studios across the town, ceramic sculptor and 2023 Open Studios debutant Tamsyn Trevorrow will be inviting visitors to take a trip out to her Chez Nous Studio in Canonstown, Lelant.

Other solo artists taking part include Susan Thomas at The Studio in Norway Square, Juliet Middleton-Batts at a former shop in Bedford Road and Paul Wadsworth, who is returning to the Crypt Gallery for the second week of the Festival where he will also exhibit paintings from his travels in India and on location in Cornwall.

Melissa and Gaia Hampson-Smith are combining Open Studios with watercolour and jewellery workshops – and afternoon teas - at their Garden Studio in Carnellis Road.
