A Cornish junior soccer league that was on the brink of collapse just over a year ago has celebrated its first season under new sponsorship with a special get-together for four of its most loyal servants.
But all that was just a distant bad memory at an evening sponsored by Truro-based Nalders Solicitors, whose support for the league has transformed its prospects.
Guests included two of the league's top-marked referees in season 2007-08 - Michael Carter, of Camborne, and Nigel Jewell, Redruth, who received framed commemorative certificates as well as enjoying a two-course meal.
Also tucking in were the first two winners in another Nalders innovation, the new "Unsung Heroes" scheme, which aims to reward the behind-the-scenes "stars" who help keep the league and its clubs going.
Harry Ball, who does numerous jobs at the Nancegollan ground, and David Spear, founder treasurer of Falmouth Albion, both received their commemorative certificates and certificates earlier this year.
Nalders has already announced that it will continue to sponsor the league for at least two more seasons on the same terms as in the first season, when the deal was worth £1,500.
