The entertainment was short, and not particularly sweet, for the home supporters at Grampound Road on Saturday, as they went down to a crushing defeat in their local derby with Truro in the Jolly's Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League.

The "Road" were dismissed for exactly 100 and Truro wasted no time in sweeping to a nine wicket victory, the winning runs coming just before 4.30pm to lift Truro above Paul to third spot in the table.

With the "Road" only taking one point from the match the battle to avoid relegation is hotting up. Surprise wins for Newquay and St Austell on Saturday mean Grampound Road have slipped to the foot of the table, despite those three successive wins recently.

Initially on Saturday there were no signs of what was to come as the "Road" reached 40 before losing their third wicket. After losing Tom Hughes and Chris Roberts cheaply Mpho Sekhoto hit five boundaries in his 31. Aaron Pennell was working his way through the top order, however, taking four of the first five wickets to fall. Tom Sharp got into the act at the other end to take four for 11 as the last five wickets fell for the addition of only 19 runs.

Pennell took five for 34 from 16 overs in two spells.

Tim Marrion (26) and Chris Martin set Truro on the way to victory adding 58 for the first wicket in the ninth over. Martin went on to make 47 not out as maximum points were secured inside 16 overs.

On Saturday Truro entertain St Just while Grampound Road travel to Paul.
