An outspoken county councillor, fighting against over spending by the county council, wants residents to return their copy of a council newspaper in protest.

Mark Kaczmarek says the first county council newspaper called Your Cornwall, will cost £430,000 a year to produce, and is a waste of money. It is dropping through letterboxes this month.

The county council which has been receiving much criticism for over a year about their plans for the newspaper, regarded by many as nothing but propaganda, claim it will save money by reducing advertising in newspapers.

But the first edition of Your Cornwall contains no adverts because, says the council, they missed a Royal Mail deadline.

It will not be until September that this will happen. Then the newspaper will go out monthly.

David Whalley, council chairman claims the newspaper will take extra cash as it will be funded by money the authority currently spends on advertising in other newspapers and periodicals.

Mr Kaczmarek is furious. He says the council will still have to advertise in weekly and daily newspapers because of deadlines for job applications and that the newspaper is nothing but rubbish.

"I would encourage as many people as possible to send their copy back to new county hall in protest," he said.
