Over 100 students had the time of their lives at the biggest event of their school year.

Year 11 students and staff from Penryn College enjoyed a lavish black tie event at the Green Lawns Hotel to celebrate the end of the GCSE year.

Students arrived in true style for the evening in sports cars, limousines, horse and carriage, and in one case, a tractor.

The students came dressed in suits and ball gowns, with the Green Lawns venue decked out in a cream and gold colour scheme that was chosen by them. The youngsters even had the luxury of being ushered into the hotel via a red carpet laid on especially for the occasion.

Debbie Herbert, a learning support assistant at the school, said: "We think it's a good idea - it's something to look forward to at the end of their exams.

"My daughter went and from what I can gather they had a wonderful evening. This year they were a great group of students. Every single one of them made an effort."

The teenagers were presented with wristbands on arrival at the prom stamped with 'Penryn College' and the date, which was thought up by the student group responsible for planning the evening, made up of both boys and girls.

Mrs Herbert said: "They came up with the ideas and I went away with them, came back and said 'yes we can do this' or not."

She added: "I think an evening of getting together and dressing up, where they could relax and have fun, was fantastic. They were all ladies and gentlemen."
