From everyone’s favourite blue cartoon dog Bluey to an introduction to Shakespeare and a tribute to a West End musicals legend and Poirot himself, Hall for Cornwall has announced new shows coming to the Cornwall Playhouse stage in 2024.

Musicals

Joining the previously announced Jesus Christ Superstar, Greatest Days and The Bodyguard, are...

• An Officer and a Gentleman. Based on the Oscar-winning film, it is set to a smash-hit soundtrack from Madonna, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Blondie and others.

• Queenz! Fresh from a smash hit run in the West End, dazzling divas deliver a night of fun and fabulousness.

Drama

• The Royal Shakespeare Company returns to Truro with Romeo and Juliet. This 90-minute production is part of the RSC’s First Encounters series – the perfect introduction to Shakespeare for seven to 13-year-olds with an edited version of the original language.

Ballet

• Ballet lovers and newcomers alike will find joy and spectacle in the classical delights of Nerubashenko Ballet’s Swan Lake. This timeless tale tells the story of Prince Siegfried who falls in love with Odette, Queen of the Swans, but is tricked into the ultimate betrayal, leading to tragedy.

This season, the Smirnov-Golovanov productions will be presented by international artistes hand-picked by Ukrainian-born Ludmila Nerubashenko – widow of the late Smirnov-Golovanov (Honoured Arts Worker of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and former Artistic Director of Odessa State Opera and Ballet Theatre).

Stars of TV and Theatre

• Sir Tim Rice presents I Know Him So Well – My Life in Musicals. The multi-award winning, internationally renowned lyricist reflects on his illustrious career at the heart of musical theatre, sharing anecdotes behind the songs of hit musicals Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and more. The evening will be accompanied by performances from some of the UK’s leading West End singers and musicians, led by musical director Duncan Waugh.

• Sir David Suchet explores his life on stage and screen in Poirot and More, A Retrospective.

• Stars of Channel 4’s Escape to the Chateau, former Cornish resident Dick and his wife Angel Strawbridge bring their interactive show Forever Home (Avec Le Nitty Gritty) to the Cornwall Playhouse. You will even have the chance to pose your own questions to the couple.

Comedy

• Julian Clary, with his Western themed show, A Fistful of Clary. The lucky few will play with him on stage in the Hang ‘em Low saloon, where Wild Bill Hickok used to meet his special friend, Raving Clarence la Fruit.

• Tom Davis (King GaryMurder in Successville, Live at the Apollo and his podcast Wolf and Owl with Romesh Ranganathan) brings his new stand-up show Underdog to Truro.

• The Makings of a Murderer is a chilling night with The Scottish Detective, David Swindle – the man who brought Peter Tobin to justice. From Jack the Ripper, Harold Shipman and Peter Sutcliffe to Fred and Rose West and more, get the detective’s perspective on what makes a serial killer tick.

• Justin Hayward (songwriter for The Moody Blues, and Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of the Worlds), brings his new concert The Harmony Tour to Truro.

Hall for Cornwall also welcomes back Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, tributes to Cher, Prince, Queen, Frank Sinatra and The Beach Boys, as well as Get It On! One Night of Glam Rock, The Story of Soul, The Sensational 60s Experience, The American Four Tops Show and The Ultimate Classic Rock Show.

• Bluey’s Big Play is a brand-new theatrical adaptation of the heart-warming Emmy award-winning Australian TV series that has proved a smash hit worldwide. With an original story, new music and brilliantly created puppets, it brings Bluey to life.

• Following acclaimed productions of Gangsta Granny, Billionaire Boy and Demon Dentist comes a new production of David Walliams’ adventure story Awful Auntie.

• Follow The Gruffalo’s Child on her adventurous mission in Tall Stories’ enchanting adaptation of the much-loved picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

• After last year’s popular show, Pop Princesses returns.

Strictly Come Dancing

• An Evening with Anton Du Beke and Friends will see the dancer-turned-judge performing some of his favourite songs, dances and stories.

• Graziano Di Prima and his wife Giada Lini take to the stage in Believe. My Life on Stage – an evening of Latin and Ballroom dancing, and a tribute to his Italian ancestors.
