Pauline Quirke to launch performing arts academy PQA Truro

PQA Truro, which will be based in Truro High School and is set to open on February 10, offers high-energy weekend classes for four to 18 year olds.

It will start with a simple yet very powerful and meaningful message.

Ms Quirke MBE explained: "When we opened our first academy in 2007, our simple mission was to provide the very best in performing arts education.

"We’ve grown since then, but our mission hasn’t changed.

"By working with people who we believe to be outstanding in their field, we aim to bring the widest, most exciting experiences to our students in an environment that is both friendly and rewarding."

Principal Sam Pomeroy is looking forward to the launch, providing opportunities in theatre, music, film making and dance.

He said: "I can not wait to bring PQA to Truro.

"As someone who grew up in Cornwall, I am passionate about providing as many opportunities as we can to young people in Cornwall and raising their confidence and aspirations.

"I believe that PQA has all of the components to do this for our students."

Students will engage in three core modules which include Comedy & Drama, Film & Television and Musical Theatre and will not only learn but forge new friendships each week.

The academy also paves way for exciting opportunities such as experiencing the thrill of a West End performance at Her Majesty’s Theatre or seeing their own short film aired on the big screen in Central London.

The performing arts academy's ethos is 'Be Yourself, Be Amazing', signifying a positive stance on the impact of performing arts on young lives.

To get a taste of the new offering, there is an open day available, and if you're lucky you could win a free term's tuition.

The open day kicks off at 9.45am on February 10, 2024 and is at Truro High School for Girls, Falmouth Road, TR1 2HU.
