In a holiday spectacle, the Mediaeval Baebes are set to bring their torchlit procession and night of entertainment to Truro next month.
The procession will begin outside the library in Pydar Street at 6.55pm on Thursday, December 7.
Renowned for their storytelling and music, the torch-bearing Mediaeval Babes will lead spectators to Truro Cathedral for a night of performance.
They will be accompanied by musicians with stringed instruments, drums, bagpipes, and recorders.
Performance enthusiasts are encouraged to join in the merriment with the Mediaeval Baebes, or alternatively spectators can simply watch and enjoy.
Inside the cathedral, the classical choir will bring the Christmas spirit by performing an array of well-known carols, traditional folk songs, and tracks from their latest seasonal album, ‘MydWynter.’
The performance will marry captivating storytelling with the choral music.
The narrative will delve into the origins and folklore hidden in the lyrics, paired with innovative settings of ancient and romantic poetry.
Historically, pageantry played a significant role in mediaeval seasonal festivals.
This consisted of songs, dances, pantomimes, and games, accompanied by processions, feasts, and church services.
The Mediaeval Baebes aim to provide a modern-day rendition of these festivities.
Over the years, the Mediaeval Baebes, a successful female-led, early music, and folk ensemble in Europe, have released eleven albums and earned an Ivor Novella Award for their performance on the BBC's 'The Virgin Queen' serialization.
They have also been nominated for two Emmys and received a Royal Television Society award for the theme tune of ITV's hit show 'Victoria'.
In 2023, the Mediaeval Baebes album 'Ringa Ringa' collaboration with Orbital peaked at number six in the album charts.
They were recently invited to work with TikTok sensation, The Wellermen, on their 'Explorations' remix album.
