Thousands of people flocked into Falmouth at the weekend to celebrate all things festive – despite the bad weather.

The Festive Weekend brought ‘Christmas cheer’ and ‘snow’ to the many visitors who came into the town over the two-day event, which has now become a firm fixture on the Falmouth Christmas calendar.

Funded and coordinated by the nationally recognised Town Team – the partnership between Falmouth BID and Falmouth Town Council, with support from the Christmas Working Group.

A musical chair ride, as well as a Santa’s Grotto and Christmas present drop for charity organised by the Miracle Theatre, all added to the Christmassy atmosphere.

Meanwhile, visitors to Church Street were greeted with magical snowy scenes, as professional snow machines created a winter effect that was enjoyed by young and old alike.

There was also live music from local bands on the open stage and a have-a-go curling lane.

Another big hit was the festive snow train, which carried large numbers of excited families on a ‘Christmassy’ loop from The Moor to Event’s Square. Father Christmas also took time out from his busy schedule to ride on the train over the weekend and give out sweet treats to fellow passengers and passers-by!

Falmouth’s excellent cruise ship ambassador volunteers were officially renamed the ‘Christmas Ambassadors’ who helped throughout the event.

Speaking about the success of the two-day event, Falmouth town mayor Cllr Kirstie Edwards said: “Wow, what a weekend!

“The Festive Weekend bears testament to the strength of community spirit here in Falmouth, with many local groups, volunteers and traders getting involved.

“I have received terrific feedback from residents and visitors, impressed by how well Falmouth and its Town Team organise events. This festival had brought Christmas cheer to many people.”

“Despite the challenging weather conditions in the build-up to the event (that led to the unfortunate cancellation of planned Christmas markers) our volunteers and the Christmas Working Group came together to support and enable it to take place.

“The town had a lovely atmosphere, despite windy and at times wet weather on Sunday, with the event helping support our businesses community by giving people even more of a reason to support local.”
