A community organisation in West Cornwall has received an £8,000 grant to help residents struggling with fuel poverty this winter.

The facilities at St Piran’s Hall in Goldsithney will provide a warm hub, energy saving advice and warm packs to villagers.

The funding comes from National Grid Electricity Distribution's £5 million Community Matters Fund.

A trustee from St Piran’s Hall, Andy Moore, said: "The grant from the Community Matters Fund will make a real impact to the range of help we can offer at St Piran's Hall.

"The Deck the Halls project will enable us to offer more help and support to local people who would otherwise struggle this winter.

"A really big thank you to National Grid Electricity Distribution for their much-needed support which will really make a difference."

The Deck the Halls project will utilise a team of volunteers to run aspects of the initiative, offering energy advice sessions, and distributing warm packs to those in need.

Chris Hayton, the director of corporate affairs at National Grid Electricity Distribution said: "Unfortunately, we know that many people will struggle to keep their homes warm this winter.

"At a time when addressing fuel poverty has never been more critical, our Community Matters Fund will support local groups to deliver help where it’s most needed.

"We're looking forward to working with community groups like St Piran’s Hall to create positive change and to seeing the results of their hard work."
