A school in Cornwall has been been given an overall rating of 'Good' from Ofsted inspectors.

Trevithick Learning Academy, in Camborne, was given the rating following a recent inspection.

It was rated Good for quality of education, Good for leadership and management, and Good for Early Years provision. It also achieved an Outstanding for both behaviour and attitudes and personal development. These results contributed to the overall effectiveness rating of Good.

This is the first Ofsted inspection since the school converted to academy in 2012. It was previously known as Trevithick Primary School.

As part of the Venture Multi Academy Trust, Trevithick Learning Academy, overseen by headteacher William Johnson, accommodates a large number of pupils.

Inspectors found that Trevithick Learning Academy puts a prime focus on inclusion.

The report said: "Inclusion runs through Trevithick like a stick of rock.

"Leaders are highly ambitious for all pupils whether they are in the mainstream classes or in the additional resource base (ARB).

"Staff cheerfully greet pupils each morning. This reflects the warm relationships in the school. Pupils feel safe and secure."

The report also found that the academy maintains a high standard of behaviour among its students, stating that they have 'highly positive attitudes to learning', 'display impeccable manners', 'play together harmoniously', and that 'bullying is rare'.

Ofsted highlighted that the school "provides pupils with a rich range of experiences beyond the academic."

From beach and forest school to the Year 6 bushcraft camp, the experiences are 'meticulously planned and of the highest quality'.

Classic educational experiences are joined by a strong commitment to sport.

Inspectors found that "Trevithick is a hub of sporting excellence across a range of different disciplines."

A unique event, 'Trevictus Games', gives pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) the experience of competitive sport.

The inspectors commended the unity among leaders, staff, governors, trustees, pupils and parents in the vision for Trevithick.

The school was appreciated for its emphasis on pupils’ personal development.

The report also said pupils leave Trevithick having learned a 'broad and balanced curriculum'.

The report added: "However, it is the breadth beyond the academic that the school is rightly proud of.

"Pupils are well prepared for their next stage of education."

The inspectors found that staff and school leaders had taken great care to develop a 'well-sequenced and ambitious curriculum' catering from Nursery to key stage 2.

The report said parents and carers speak highly of the school and appreciate the communication between school and home, deeming it 'strong'.
