Camborne Police Station is set for a further £3 million redevelopment after planning permission was granted for improvement works.

Work to improve the police station, built in the 1960s, will include a new police enquiry desk and see the removal of asbestos, replacement of windows and a new roof.

The Devon and Cornwall Police estate, consisting of 135 buildings across the peninsula, is overseen by Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez.

She said: “I am pleased that Camborne Police Station can now continue with the redevelopment work that is so desperately needed. This redevelopment, once finalised, will provide both staff and the public a building to use that is fit for the 21st century.

“The inclusion of an improved Police Enquiry Office has further enhanced the support available to the public in getting help if they have experienced crime and antisocial behaviour, want to report an incident, or would like advice about how to prevent crime.

“This is yet another example of my continued investment in bringing face-to-face policing back into our communities in Devon and Cornwall.”

Throughout the ongoing building work the public enquiry office at Camborne remains open.

It is hoped the new station will be operational by the early part of 2025.

Superintendent Ian Thompson from Local Policing in West Cornwall said: “I am delighted that planning has now been approved. We can now look to submitting plans to main contractors for pricing so that this project can continue.

“It is important that the public are reassured that Camborne front desk (police enquiry office) remains open to them, ensuring face-to face contact with the force is possible.”
