A production of Sleeping Beauty is coming to Gweek this month.

Gweek Pantoloons will be performing their rendition of the classic tale, adapted by 16-year-old Daniel Ashley and edited by Sarah Ashley.

A vibrant cast of 20, ranging from 13 to 60-plus, is set to breathe life into the story at Dame Doodle’s cottage in the woods and the Queen's palace.

The nefarious fairy, played by Sarah Bray, makes attempts to banish Princess Astrid, brought to life by Tamsin Marquis.

The Princess encounters numerous vibrant characters on her journey, including handsome Toby, who introduces her to pasty-making.

Good fairies cast protective spells over Astrid’s eternal slumber, searching for a solution to the curse.

The pantomime boasts a young cast, with over half being youngsters.

Audience participation is actively encouraged, making the show a fun-filled family event.

Sue Toney and her team's bright costumes benefit from Russ Bibby's creative lighting, presenting scenes arranged by Barry Tart and the Pantoloons crew.

The performances will be held at Gweek Village Hall at 7pm on February 29 and March 1.

An additional show will take place on March 2 at 2pm and 7pm.

Attendees can look forward to a colouring competition, a raffle, refreshments and ice cream, in addition to a beer and wine bar.

Post the Saturday evening show, the Gweek Inn Trophies (GITS) will be presented.

These trophies are a nod to the hard work and talent showcased by the participants.

They highlight the best adaptation, best joke, best recovery from disaster and other noteworthy performances.

Tickets are priced at £6 for adults and £3 for under 14’s.

They can be purchased from Gweek Village Shop, The Black Swan, Brian Toney, or the gweekpantoloons.org website.

Tickets can also be bought at the door on each performance day.
